BATAVIA, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team shot a 297 on the final day of competition at "The Jewell," which served as the second NCAA Division II Midwest Regional golf event of the 2013-14 season.  The event was hosted at the par-71, 6,673 yard Elks Run Golf Club.

The fourth place finish is the best for the program in a regional tournament since the fall of 2010, when the men finished in fourth place at the first NCAA Regional event of that season.

The 297 was a five stroke improvement over SVSU's first round score, which had it tied for sixth place after the first 18 holes of play.  The Cardinals tied with Cedarville with the 599 two day total in the fourth slot.  Both schools finished a single stroke behind third place Quincy University and three behind tourney runner-up Ferris State University.  Malone University won the event by 18 strokes, turning in a two-day total of 578.

Wyatt Drost followed his first round one-over 72 with an even-par 71 on Sunday, finishing in fourth place by himself with a total of 143 (+1).

Adam Hansen shot a one-over 72 in the second round, as he coupled that with his first round 77 to tie for 15th place with a 149.  Teammate Micah Skidmore (73-76, +7) was one of the six golfers tied with Hansen for 15th.

Carter Marsh (81-78, +17) and Eric Gandy (80-81, +19) also competed in the event for Saginaw Valley.

The Cardinals return to the course next weekend (Apr. 13-14), as they compete in the NCAA Regional #3 Tournament.  The event is set to be played at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind.
