Gandy Claims Medalist Honors At SVSU Fall Invitational

MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University golf team hosted the Cardinal Fall Invitational over the past weekend.  The tournament was played at the Bay City Country Club on Saturday (9/14) for the first round and then at Currie West Golf Course on Sunday (9/15) for round number two.

The Cardinals posted team scores of 295 (+7) and 297 (+9) on the weekend to finish with a 16-over par 592.  SVSU finished just one stroke behind tournament winner Northwood University, which shot rounds of 292 and 299 to finish at 591.

Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) was under par on both rounds, shooting 69-70 on the par-72 courses to claim medalist honors at five under par.  His next nearest competitor finished seven strokes behind at +2.

Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.) posted a fourth place finish, shooting rounds of 73-76 to finish +5 on the weekend.

Chris Weir (Port Huron, Mich./Northern HS), Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix HS) and Carter Marsh (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac HS) rounded-out the scoring for SVSU, all tying for 10th place with finishes of +10.

Saginaw Valley is back in action Saturday (9/21) and Sunday (9/22), as it heads to South Haven, Michigan to compete in the 2013 GLIAC North Tournament.
