NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team finished the NCAA Midwest Regional No. 3 today (April 15) by firing a final round 308 (+20) for a 615 (+39) team total in 24th place out of 31 teams.
Sophomore Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich.) backed up a first round 73 with a 78 in the final round to lead the Cardinals overall at 7-over-par 151 in a tie for 64th at Purgatory Golf Club.
Sophomore Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.) and Kreg Sherman (Clio, Mich.) led the way for SVSU on the final day by shooting a pair of 4-over-par 76s. Skidmore finished in a tie for 81st with a 153 (+9) total, while Sherman came in at +11 overall in 87th place.
Senior Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich. / Western) and junior Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) rounded out the SVSU lineup by carding rounds of 78 and 80, respectively. Vogl ended the tournament at 159 (+15) as Gandy posted 160 (+16).
Missouri-St. Louis was the eventual team champion with a 3-over-par 36 hole total.
The SVSU golfers will be back in action next Saturday (April 20) at Winding Hollow G.C. for the GLIAC South Tournament in New Albany, Ohio.
