GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team finished the first round of The Jewell, also known as NCAA Midwest Regional No. 2, today (April 6).
The Cardinals currently sit in 15th place with a 304 (+16) total after 18 holes of action.
Sophomore Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.) led the way for the Cardinals with a 3-over-par round of 75. Skidmore went out in 36 before coming in with 39 on the back nine to sit in a tie for 38th.
Senior Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich. / Western) posted a great opening nine of 34 which he followed up with a tough 42. Vogl's 76 total puts him in a tie for 52nd position. Kreg Sherman (Clio, Mich.) also carded a 4-over-par round of 76 with splits of 37-39.
Junior Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western) posted a 5-over-par opening round of 77 which consisted of 37 on the opening nine and 40 on the back. Hansen sits in 65th after day one.
Junior Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) rounded out the SVSU lineup by firing 42-38 for a total of 80 and currently sits in a tie for 88th position.
The SVSU golfers will be back in action tomorrow (April 7) for the final round of the NCAA Regional in an attempt to make a charge up the leaderboard.
