ELYRIA, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place after a +8 final round 296 at the 2012 GLIAC Men's Golf Championships today (Oct. 16) held at Elyria Country Club. SVSU finished with a 897 (+33) overall team score, 17 shots behind the champions from Grand Valley State.
The Cardinals were led on day two by Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) who posted back-to-back nines of 35 in his final round to record a two-under-par 70 to move into a tie for 21st place. Hansen birdied two of his final three holes to finish at +11 for the 54-hole event.
Sophomore Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich. / Home school) found some trouble on his final round back nine but managed to make birdies on holes 16 and 17 coming home to card a five-over-par 77 and finish in a tie for 10th place at +7 for the Championships.
Senior Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich. / Western HS) recorded his second consecutive round of 75 (+3) to finish in a tie for 15th position at 10-over-par for the weekend. Vogl was unable to get anything going on his front nine (39) before righting the ship to post even-par 36 on the back nine.
Also finishing in a tie for 15th at 226 was sophomore Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich.) who finished with a third round 74 after identical nines of 37 on Tuesday. Drost tallied one birdie and three bogeys in his final round.
The Saginaw Valley lineup was rounded out by junior Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek HS) as he posted a final round 81 to finish in a tie for 41st.
The Cardinals are now finished with their fall schedule and will prepare over the winter months for the spring season.
