SVSU Golfers Finish 12th with 298 in Final Round of Regionals, Gandy Sixth

KANSASVILLE, Wis. - The Saginaw Valley State University golf team rebounded with a 298 (+10) on the final day of the NCAA Division II Regional #1 tournament at Brighton Dale Links today (Oct. 1). The Cardinals moved up to 12th place in the 24-team field.

The Cardinals were led by junior Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) who followed up his one-under-par round of 71 in the first round with a 75 (+3) on day two to finish at two-over-par for the tournament. Gandy took sixth place four shots behind the medalist.

Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western HS) paced SVSU on Monday with a one-over-par round of 73 to finish at 153 (+9) for the event. Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich./Western HS) matched Hansen at 153 with a second round 74 (+2) to tie for 50th position.

Sophomore Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich.) carded a 76 (+4) in the final round to finish with a 156  total in 72nd place, while Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich./Home school) posted 158 (80-78) to round out the Cardinal lineup in a tie for 86th.

The SVSU golfers will now have two weeks to prepare for their final fall event, the 2012 GLIAC Championships at Elyria Country Club hosted by Ashland University October 14-16.
