Gandy Fires One-Under 71 to Pace Cardinal Golfers at Regionals

KANSASVILLE, Wis. - The Saginaw Valley State University golf team posted a 310 (+22) on day one of the NCAA Regional #1 tournament at Brighton Dale Links today (Sept. 30). The Cardinals are in 14th place after Sunday in the 24-team field.

The Cardinals were led by junior Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek HS) who carded a one-under-par round of 71 in the first round. Gandy sits tied for third place just three shots behind the leader.

Following Gandy was Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich./Western HS) with a 79 (+7), while the rest of the Saginaw Valley lineup consisting of Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich./Home school), Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich.) and Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western HS) all completed day one with identical rounds of 80 (+8).

The SVSU golfers look to make a late charge up the leaderboard tomorrow (Oct. 1) as they battle in the final round of the first Regional tournament of the season.
