SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University golf team posted a +12 round of 300 on the second and final day of the GLIAC Fall Event today (Sept. 24) to finish second overall (+23 / 599). The Cardinals moved up three spots to second overall, finishing five shots behind Wayne State University who took the team title with a 594 total.
Sophomore Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich. / Home school) led the Cardinal charge up the leaderboard by carding a two-over-par round of 74 to finish at +2 (146) for the tournament. Skidmore finished in second place individually, two shots behind the medalist.
Eric Gandy (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek HS) fired the round of the day for SVSU as he posted a one-over-par 73 in the windy conditions at the par 72 HawksHead Golf Course. Gandy finished the event in 11th place with a 149 (+5) total.
Senior Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich. / Western HS) recorded a final round 77 (+5) to finish the event in 26th position with a 152 total (+8).
Junior Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western HS) produced his second consecutive round of 76 (+4) on Monday to finish at +8 along with Vogl in a tie for 26th position.
The Cardinal squad was rounded out by Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich.) as he completed the tournament with an 86 on day two.
Saginaw Valley will return to action next weekend as they travel to Kansasville, Wisc. to compete in the first NCAA Regional Tournament of the year.
