NORMAN, Okla. – The Division II PING All-Region honorees have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Saginaw Valley State University freshman Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich./Home school) was selected to the Midwest All-Region team.
Skidmore is one of 12 individuals to receive this exclusive designation in the Midwest region and one of 107 total players nationally in Division II. Five golfers from GLIAC schools were named to the all-region team.
Skidmore, a redshirt freshman for the SVSU golf team, excelled in his first season of collegiate competition as was the top finisher for the Cardinals in nine of 10 events this season. He finished off his season with a trip to NCAA Super Regionals where he fired a first round 70 (-2) before dropping back to finish in a tie for 28th position.
Micah finished in the top-20 eight times, including three tournaments inside the top five with his best coming at the The Jewell where he posted back-to-back rounds of one-under-par 71 to finish runner-up, one shot behind the medalist.
Skidmore became the sixth SVSU golfer to be named to the All-GLIAC First-Team since the conference started the designation in 2000. Micah is also the first Cardinal golfer to be tabbed conference 'Freshman of the Year.'
