JEFFERSON CITY, Missouri - Saginaw Valley State University golfer Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich./Home school) posted a first round two-under 70 at the NCAA DII Men's Golf Midwest/South Central Regional today (May 7) and sits in third place.
Skidmore, who qualified for the Super Regionals with his stellar play throughout the 2011-12 season, is participating in the tournament as an individual at the 7,112-yard layout at Jefferson City Country Club.
Skidmore got off to a shaky start on Monday afternoon as he bogeyed the first hole. However, Micah bounced back quickly with a birdie on the par three 3rd hole as he stuck his approach to three feet and made the putt.
The redshirt freshman continued his strong play with two more birdies on holes No. 5 and No. 9 while mixing in a bogey on the 446-yard 5th hole to finish with a one-under-par front nine 35.
Skidmore would make the turn and gain even more momentum as he made back-to-back birdies on the par three 11th and par five 12th holes to move to three-under-par on his round.
The leader of the SVSU golf team dropped a shot making bogey on the 13th hole before reeling off five straight pars to close out his first round with a two-under-par 70.
Skidmore sits alone in third place after day one of the three day event, two strokes behind Jared King of Central Missouri and Travis Shooks of Grand Valley State who both carded four-under-par 68's.
Micah will tee off at 8:20 am Tuesday Morning (May 8) on hole No. 10 in round two of the Super Regional as he continues his march to a berth in the NCAA National Championships.
