Cardinal Golfers In 12th After Windy Day One At Regionals

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University golf team posted a first round 315 (+27) and sits in 12th position at the final Great Lakes Regional tournament of the season. The Cardinals are 14 shots behind Tiffin University who shot 301 to lead after day one.

Saginaw Valley was led by Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich./Home school) who fired a three-over-par round of 75 and is currently tied for ninth place. Skidmore's round included a two-under-par back nine 34. Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix HS) grinded out a 78 (+6) in the windy conditions on Sunday and is tied for 39th place after 18 holes of competition.

Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich./Western HS) was next up for SVSU with an eight-over-par round of 80 in the first round and sits in a tie for 66th place, while Kreg Sherman (Caro, Mich.) recorded 82 (+10) in the blustery weather at the par 72, 7,268-yard Purgatory Golf Club layout. Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western HS) rounded out the Cardinal lineup with a 90 (+18) on day one.

The Saginaw Valley golfers will attempt to move up the leaderboard on Monday in the final round of the Great Lakes Regional.
