COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team competed in day one of the Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational at the par-72 Otter Creek Golf Course. The Cardinals sit in eighth place after 18 holes of competition after shooting a nine-over-par round of 297. SVSU finished twelve shots behind Ferris State University who fired a three-under-par 288 to lead after day one.
Freshman Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich./Charlevoix HS) led the Cardinal squad on Saturday with an even-par round of 72, including a two-under-par back nine 34. Red-shirt freshman Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich./Home school) posted a one-over-par 73 after a one-under-par back nine 35.
The Saginaw Valley lineup was rounded out with Addison Monfils (Big Rapids, Mich./Big Rapids HS) who fired a four-over-par 76, while Kreg Sherman (Caro, Mich./Caro HS) also fired a 76 with matching nines of 38. Sophomore Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western HS) struggled on day one with a round of 81.
The Saginaw Valley golfers will look to move up the leaderboard on day two of the Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational on Sunday (Mar. 25).
