Cardinal Golfers Fall to Grand Valley on Spring Trip, 5-2

PINEHURST, N.C. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team battled Grand Valley State University in a match play competition and fell by a 5-2 count. The competition took place at the Golf Club at Hyland as part of the team's annual spring trip.

Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.) defeated Chris Cunningham 2 & 1 to give SVSU their first point of the match. Troy Quenneville (Tecumseh, Ont./St. Anne Catholic HS) would pick up the other Cardinal point by taking down Paul Young by a 4 & 3 final.

Kreg Sherman (Caro, Mich.) dropped a tightly contested match one down to GVSU's Nick Gunthorpe. Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western HS) lost to Chase Olsen 6 & 5, while Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western HS) fell by a 3 & 2 decision to Joel Siegal.

Senior Addison Monfils (Big Rapids, Mich.) battled with Jack Rider but ultimately fell 4 & 2, while Drew Vogl (Bay City, Mich./Bay City Western HS) dropped a 6 & 4 decision to Travis Shooks.

The Cardinal golfers will try to sharpen their skills on the rest of their trip before starting spring competition at the Northern Kentucky Invitational on March 17-18.
