Cardinals Sit in Sixth After Day One at GLIAC Championships

BATH, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University golf team currently sits in sixth place after the first round of play at the 2011 GLIAC Men's Golf Championships, held at the par-72 Eagle Eye Golf Club. The Cardinals fired a 314 (+26) in round one Sunday morning and followed it up with a 302 (+14) in the second round. 

The 54-hole event started with 36 holes on Sunday (Oct. 2) and will conclude with 18 holes on Monday (Oct. 3).

Freshman Wyatt Drost (Charlevoix, Mich.) leads the Cardinals after firing a two-under par 70 in his second round to sit in eighth place after day one with a 148 (+4) total. Micah Skidmore (Saginaw, Mich.) used a three-under par back nine in the first round to fire 72 but finished day one tied for 22nd with a 152 (+8) total. Junior Addison Monfils (Big Rapids, Mich./Big Rapids HS) fired consecutive rounds of 78 (+6) to sit in a tie for 30th with a 156 total. The SVSU lineup was rounded out with Adam Hansen (Auburn, Mich./Bay City Western) and Dustin Vogl (Bay City, Mich./Western HS) who recorded two-round totals of 160 and 173, respectively.

Second round play was suspended due to darkness and will resume Monday morning at 9 am.
