SVSU Finishes Fifth In Great Lakes Regional #1

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men’s golf team finished in a tie for fifth place in the first Great Lakes Regional Tournament, held at Hawk’s Head Golf Course in South Haven, Mich. The Cardinals, who tied with the University of Findlay in the fifth slot, shot a 585 total for the two-day event. Wayne State won the event with a team total of 573, and was followed by Ferris State University, which had a two round total of 576. Danny Lewis from Northern Kentucky was the tournament medalist with a score of 135 (-9).

Nate Kelly finished the tournament with a one-over-par score of 145 to lead SVSU. Brian King and Rob Ronk were two strokes behind him with scores of 147 (+3). John Lange shot a 150 (+6) and Dieter Schulz had a 151 (+7) to round-out play for Saginaw.

SVSU will continue play September 27-28 at the Ferris State University Tournament in Big Rapids, Mich. in its final tune-up before the GLIAC Championships October 3-5 in Marquette, Mich.
