MIDLAND -- Playing in the final contest of the 2018-19 season, the SVSU Men's Basketball team faced Northwood University on the road Thursday night. The Timberwolves, fighting for a GLIAC postseason berth, would come out and defeat the Cardinals by a final score of 71-58 at NU's Riepma Arena.
The first half began all Northwood, as the Timberwolves built an 11-point lead and led by eight points (27-19) with just 2:07 remaining in the first half.
Darnell Hoskins Jr., Lamonato and Belyeu all led the way through the opening 20 minutes with seven points. Belyeu had a game-high seven rebounds in the first half as well.
A Belyeu layup with 15:45 to play knotted the score at 33-33 but the T-Wolves would work their way back out to a double digit lead at 51-40 with 7:10 showing on the clock.
The lead would reach as much as 14 points and Northwood would end up finishing-off for the 13-point victory, 71-58.
Inside the Boxscore
- Belyeu finished with a double-double for the Cardinals, recording a team-high 16 points and game-best 12 rebounds. He was named the Meijer "Player of the Game" while adding five assists and a steal as well.
- Lamonato had 11 points with seven boards.
- Hoskins netted 13 points, adding three assists, three steals and a rebound.
- The rebounding battle was tied 37-37 while NU posted a 40-32 edge in the paint
SVSU will miss out on the 2019 GLIAC Tournament and look forward to next season, having won two of the final three games of the 2018-19 campaign. The Cardinals return their full roster for the 2019-20 season.
