The D2Football.com All-America Team was selected by the staff of D2Football.com with input from coaches and sports information directors from around the country. The team features Saginaw Valley State University senior defensive tackle Heath Williams, who is listed on the second team at the defensive line position.
This marks the second preseason All-American plaudit for Williams, who was named to the College Football America Yearbook Division II Preseason Starting Lineup as well.
Williams, a native of East Lansing, Michigan, had a breakout junior campaign in helping lead the Cardinals to an 8-3 overall record and 5-3 mark in the GLIAC. He stood-out as one of the top defensive linemen in the league in 2018, registering a GLIAC-best 13 sacks and 19 tackles-for-loss. He ranked 5th on the team with 56 tackles, adding a forced fumble. His 17.5 career sacks move him into the No. 10 spot all-time at Saginaw Valley State University and the 13.5 sacks are the third-best single season figure. He was named to the All-GLIAC First Team and would go on to earn a pair of All-Super Region Three honors and being named to the Don Hansen Football Gazette's All-American First Team.
The Cardinals begin the 2019 season Saturday (Sep. 7) at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Cardinals' home slate begins on September 14 versus Tiffin. Click here to view the complete 2019 SVSU Football Schedule.
