Gerrit Eding finished his second season as a volunteer assistant coach with the SVSU baseball team after four seasons playing for the Cardinals. He primarily works with the SVSU catchers.
Following the retirement of Steve Jaksa, Eding has been named interim head coach.
During the 2021 season, Eding helped the Cardinals to a 17-17 overall record and 12-12 in the GLIAC, along with an appearance in the GLIAC Tournament. The Cardinals had 5 players earn All-GLIAC honors. Hayden Jatczak was named GLIAC Freshmen of the Year as well as Second Team All-GLIAC. Brandon Scheurer and Hunter Merillat also landed on the Second Team while Martin Money and Kendall Anthes were Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.
In 2022, SVSU went 21-28 overall and 10-14 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals earned the No. 5 seed in the GLIAC Tournament, while five players were named to the All-GLIAC teams. Hayden Jatczak and Hunter Merillat landed on the First Team, Austin Schweiger was named to the Second Team, and Martin Money and Andrew Burke earned Honorable Mention All-GLIAC.
In four seasons, including the shortened 2020 campaign, Eding appeared in 77 games, recording 39 hits, 23 RBIs, and one home run.
He is a native of Hamilton, Mich., and played his high school baseball at Hamilton High School.
