UNIVERSITY CENTER -- After a strong fall performance, the Saginaw Valley State University Athletic Department ranks No. 9 in the first fall rankings of the Division II Learfield Director's Cup. The initial release of the rankings includes Men's & Women's Cross Country, Volleyball, Field Hockey, Men's & Women's Soccer. The final rall rankings will be released on Dec. 20 and will include football.
The Cardinals sit in ninth place overall in the first standings, racking-up 182.00 points. Saginaw Valley received 73.5 points after the Men's Cross Country team finished sixth at this past weekend's national championships and got another 28 after Allison Dorr's all-american showing for the Women's Cross Country team. There were 64 more points that came SVSU's way after the Men's Soccer team's ninth-place finish nationally after their run to the NCAA Round of 16. The Cardinal Women's Soccer squad tacked-on another 25 points after competing in their respective NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Saginaw Valley is currently the second-ranked team in the standings of all GLIAC schools, with GVSU sitting at the No. 2 position overall.
